Guess what I got last Friday ?

My C&R FFL in the mail ! ......for those not familiar it's a Curio & Relics Federal Firearms License.

Now I can have those old bolt action rifles shipped to my doorstep.

It's a Royal Pain in the A$$ if you don't know what you're doing. The first time I tried, I printed off a form from the Internet - mailed it and it came back. The form was OLD (not good) and the Address was bad so BATFE never got it.............So, the proper way is to ORDER the form.

BATFE will ship a Green form to you free of charge.

Fill out that form (twice - it's 2 pages) with (1) copy sent to your CLEO (Chief Law Enforcement Officer) of you're hometown to keep on file. Then mail it in along with $30 to the BATFE office in Atlanta, GA.

It'll take over a month (mine took almost 2 months) to get approved and your FFL is good for 3-years and $10 per year thereafter to renew.

Here's the list of eligible firearms :

Here's the link where to obtain the form :

http://www.atf.treas.gov/dcof/index.htm

F 7CR (5310.16) - Application for License (Collector of Curios and Relics) Under 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, Firearms

Be sure to check the right box (see F 7CR above)......it'll take a week or two to receive your form.

And get nice discounts from Brownells, and Midway USA.

In case you hadn't heard, BATF is apparently doing more annual audits of C&R licensees than they ever have in the past. Just a heads up to get & maintain a decent bound book (but you probably already knew that).

Enjoy your new C&R FFL! How are you going to "break it in"?

Thanks, I'll check into that.

Hmmm........a fellow Cruffler said he hadn't been audited in years (he got his license in the late 1980's). He also said a buddy got audited on his 3rd year of getting his license. Oh well, I plan on keeping good records anyhow.

Well, I'd like to get a Yugo SKS rifle..........but I also have my eye on either a Colt Sistema .45 or a Ballester Molina .45

I was never audited in 9 years of having a C&R FFL, but it looks like compliance audits are becoming more & more common with C&R FFL holders. There's a posting on Gunboards about a Texas cruffler being contacted for a compliance inspection. The Gunboards thread also references another inspection of 7-8 crufflers in the Boston area.

Sounds like your "break in the FFL" choices are good ones, including the famous Ballerina Molester. You should buy at least one Mosin Nagant 91/30 rifle (from AIM, preferably - they're good folks), so it can multiply into hundreds while stashed in the back of your gun safe.
